Carl Pei’s Nothing startup reportedly acquires Essential smartphone brand – Latest News

NEW DELHI: OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei started his new consumer technology startup called ‘Nothing’ last month. Headquartered in London, the startup will focus on developing smart and connected consumer electronics. The company has also confirmed that it will launch a pair of wireless headphones this summer.

Nothing is expected to launch its pair of wireless headphones sometime in Summer. Along with this, the company will also launch more products later this year. Now, a new online report by 9to5Google suggests that Carl Pei’s startup Nothing has acquired the smartphone brand Essential.

9to5Google have found fillings with the UK’s Intellectual Property Office. The documents disclosed that the former Essential CEO Andy Rubin has transferred ownership of Essential’s brand assets to Carl Pei’s Nothing Technologies Limited. The process of transfer was completed on January 6, 2021. The Intellectual Property includes the existing logo, trademarks and the Essential brand.

The report also adds that presently, it is not clear whether engineers from Essential have also joined Pei’s startup as part of this envelopment.

Recently, Nothing also announced that it has successfully secured $15 million in Series A funding from GV. With the new funding, the company plans to expand its team and operations, further invest in R&D, as well as launch its community and first products in the coming months.
