“We’re changing the options for a more tailored experience when Google Workspace users join or start a meeting from meet.google.com,” said Google in a blog post on Workspace updates.
Now, when users will click on “New meeting,” they will see the following three options:
– Create a meeting for later
This will allow them to generate joining information for a new meeting, which can be saved to use later.
– Start an instant meeting
This will allow them to join a meeting in one click, without first going to the Meet greenroom. Once in the meeting, users will be able to add others or copy the joining information to share. Notably, using this option will automatically turn on the camera and microphone if this option is selected.
– Schedule in Google Calendar
This will open a new tab with Calendar to create an event with Meet conferencing details automatically populated.
These new options are being rolled to automatically and do not require any admin control. There is also no end-user setting for this feature.
Google said that the rapid release of the feature is underway and will take 15 days for visibility starting on January 7. The scheduled release is said to start happening January 21.
The new options will be available to Google Workspace Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus, as well as G Suite Basic, Business, Education, Enterprise for Education, and Nonprofits customers.
Further, it will also available to users with personal Google Accounts.
