The company has now come forward to clear its position. According to a report by TechCrunch, a Google spokesperson has confirmed that the company has a plan to add privacy labels across its app catalogue. “They also confirmed the labels are expected to begin rolling out as soon as this week or next week, though an exact date is not yet available” added the report.
The report by TechCrunch also highlights other major app makers — including Amazon and Pinterest — haven’t also updated their privacy labels.
Another thing that this report claimed that two Google apps for iOS — Google Slides and Socratic — were updated after Apple rolled out the App Store privacy labels as opposed to what was claimed by Fact Company that stated that “not a single one” of Google’s apps had been updated since December 7. Notably, however, they still don’t have the privacy report.
For those unaware, Apple’s new privacy policy requires developers to ask for permission before they can track users to serve personalised ads. Starting December 8, Apple made it mandatory for developers to clearly state their privacy policies and what data is accessed and how personal information is processed.
